Bio

I am a PhD student in the Department of Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick. The primary aim of my PhD research is to explore the concept of the ideal L2 self among Japanese high school students. The ideal L2 self refers to the image learners have of themselves as proficient speakers of a second language (L2). This self-image is closely tied to learners’ motivation, influencing their drive to engage in language learning. Given the growing influence of global trends such as social media, alongside traditional cultural values, the research seeks to examine how these factors shape the development of the ideal L2 self in Japan. By investigating this complex interplay, my research aims to provide a more nuanced understanding of how learners’ motivations are influenced by both personal and cultural elements.

While I don't have many hobbies, I really love watching movies and musicals. Les Misérables is one of my favourite musical and I can't even count how many times I've seen it.
